A few weeks ago, I posted that I would be doing better time management wise, and well, me being me, that just did not happen. I really am trying to do better but well life gets in the way, and Odysseys With Love took to the back burner. That is changing today, it has to. I have put a lot of work and effort into this and I guess I have just burned out myself too. So Where Did We Go?
Since Odysseys With Love began, I have noticed one thing about the articles I have been writing. I really wanted us to be a travel blog. I am noticing that a lot of the travel-related post has been kind of put to the side here lately for other things. That’s ok, Odysseys With Love is growing and that’s a wonderful thing. I sat back this morning and really thought about what I want Odysseys to really be about. What I want our YouTube channel to be about. Travel . Family . Love So, with everything going on, does the Travel part of our tagline really fit in? It does, as we write about different trips that we have or plan to take, but it really isn’t the #1 thing that and doesn’t deserve to be the first thing our readers see when visiting Odysseys With Love. Lets look at the definition of Odyssey: an intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest I personally am on wanderer. I am always on a quest for self-discovery and learning who I am. Odysseys With Love is the journal of our family’s wanderings and learning who we are. A New Tagline? We need to find a new tagline other than Travel, Family, Love. I thought about changing the name as we move towards a blog about the DFW area, but Odysseys With Love still fits us. As we share our Journey in Love and Family, we share how we also fall in love with the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. A few things about the site will be changing. DFW has and always will be the focus of Odysseys With Love. But is a tagline really needed? No, not really. I am sharing more about my own hometown, Mesquite Texas, should that be part of the tagline? This is something that I am not 100% sure on other than the fact I share a lot of other information about DFW too. Wandering in DFW That is who we are! I am constantly learning and wandering and expanding. We are a Wandering Family always our for learning not only about our little town but DFW In general. DFW will soon be the #1 menu item on this site. But what else will be changing? What Is Odysseys With Love REALLY About? First, let me introduce myself again. Hi, my name is Megan. I am a wife to James, and mother of Skyler and Rhyan. I am a DFW local that loves to wander and discover the world around us. I am also a photographer and scatterbrained “artsy-fartsy” type. We are always growing and learning new things and love sharing our discoveries. What will you find on Odysseys With Love? My journal pretty much. I share everything from what is going on in my life from my relationship with James to parenting the two most wonderful and infuriating girl. Six Flags and Theme Park Fun, things we find in and around DFW and SO SO MUCH MORE! New Additions To Odysseys With Love You might have seen the new Mesquite Texas Guide. That is the newest addition to Odyssey With Love. I am planning to adjust the YouTube channel to also include different types of videos, you just might have to bear with me for a little while. At least until I am used to being on camera. I am planning on introducing several new things to the channel including reviews, unboxings, and much more. Crafting? I may be sharing my adventures in “Pinterest Win or Fail” here soon too as I am trying my hand at crafting again now. It could be fun and interesting. Please Forgive Me While I Figure Out Who I Am And What I Want To Be When I Grow Up! Yes, That really fits right here now. I am still trying to figure all this out. You will be seeing more from us now that I kinda have a little figured out, but I am still learning and growing not only as a blogger but also as a person! Thanks For Reading! ? Back in November, I wrote the post, His Love Language is Physical Touch and shared 50 ideas for the physical touch partner. Today, I am going to share ideas for the partner whos love language is Acts of Service. This is my love language, and James comes by speaking this easily. He seems to do something small every day at least that speaks to me in this way letting me know that he does love me. So What is the Love Language, Acts of Service? If you head over to the 5 Love Languages website, you will see that this love language is for those people who actions speak louder than words. This is doing things that your partner would like you to do. You seek to please them by serving them. Expressing your love by doing things for your partner. This love language literally means being in service to your partner. Actions that require thought, planning, time, effort and energy done in a positive light, all express love. It is the simple things that mean the most to the person whose love language is Acts of Service. The video below explains it pretty well. 78 Ideas for the Acts of Service Partner Ask “How can I help?” Ask “How can I make it better?” Ask if they need you to pick anything up on the way home. Ask their advice and follow it. Bathe and groom the dog. Bring their car for an oil change. Bring them dinner if they have to work late. Bring them lemonade or ice water when they’re doing yard work. Bring treats to their office. Clean the cat litter box. Clean their computer monitor. Change the lightbulbs in all the lamps. Draw them a bubble bath. Do a home improvement project they have hinted at. Do the one thing they have been bugging you to do before they have to bug you again. Do their least favorite chore for them. Do something they forgot. Doing the dishes Doing the laundry Doing things without being asked. Fill up their car with gas. Fixing things around the house. Fold all the socks in their sock drawer. Frame their favorite quote. Give them a pedicure. Give them uninterrupted video game time or time to watch a sporting event. Go to the museum or exhibit they have been dying to see. Have dinner ready when they get home. Help them clean out the garage. Helping them with a project. Hire a maid for the day, or better yet, clean the whole house top to bottom. Hold the doors open. Let them choose the movie. Let them sleep in. Look for opportunities to serve them. Make a list of the things they have requested or mentioned needed to be done. Then make it a point to do one once a week or so. Make a special dessert for them. Make lunch for them the next day. Make the bed. Make them a cup of coffee or tea. Make them breakfast. Make them breakfast in bed. Mow the lawn. Offer to give them a back rub. Offer to give them a foot massage. Offer to wash their hair for them. Organize a surprise party for their birthday. Pamper them. Pick up a bottle of their favorite wine or case of their favorite beer. Pick up a small trinket they would like but wouldn’t buy for themselves. Plan a weekend getaway where they have to do nothing but enjoy. Plug in their phone if they forgot. Print and frame their favorite photo. Put love notes in their lunch. Put the kids to bed. Rake the leaves. Run their errands so they can rest. Sacrificing what you want to do for them. Say “Can I help you with that, honey?” and then do it. Send them flowers at work. Shine their shoes. Shovel the snow without being asked. Subscribe them to a magazine they may like. Surprise them at work with their favorite coffee drink. Surprise them with a bonfire and s’mores. Surprise them with their favorite treat. Treat them to a night at a hotel. Their Choice, ask them to write down the things they would like done, and then work on getting these things done. Warm their towel in the dryer after their shower. Wash their car. Wash their favorite coffee mug. Water the plants for them. Take care of the kids for one whole night. Take out the trash without being asked. Take the dog for a walk. Thank them for the acts of service they do for you. Untangle a mess or cords. Visit them with their favorite lunch.
Christmas Morning, James and I stood in front of our Christmas Tree and said a few words that will forever be imprinted in my mind. I knew I wanted to take these words that we had thought long and hard over and turn them into something that we will always be able to see and look back on. The Printable I made it easy for those that do not have Photoshop to recreate this printable by going to Canva, a free designing app. Its available for computer access and for iPhone. It took me about 5 minutes to make this and I will have it printed and framed to go on our bedroom wall. You can edit everything about the printable from the background color, fonts, text size, and more on Canva. Professional Prints I am sending this in to have it professionally printed by Mixbook’s Home Decor or their photo prints depending on where I am going to place them. I am thinking two 11X14 prints and then framing them to go on the outside of a picture of James and me. Mixbook’s has a lot of options from canvas to acrylic prints to choose from. Once I have the prints hung, I will be sharing them on our Instagram. So be sure to keep an eye out at https://www.instagram.com/odysseyswithlove/ What were our Vows? I sat down over several days really thinking about what I wanted to say to James. I wanted it to be who I am and show James how much I love him. I wanted him to know that even though this was just a commitment ceremony that it meant more to me than a wedding or us going and getting legally married. I can not speak for James on his words to me on Christmas morning other than they really did bring tears to my eyes. They were the most heartfelt words I think I could have ever heard him utter to me.

Who doesn’t love surprises! Part four of our Christmas Traditions Series is on Christmas Eve! I couldn’t leave out writing about the most magical night of all nights, could I? Make sure to go back and read about our other Christmas Traditions in Part One, Part Two, and Part Three! Most Magical Night of The Year Why do I think Christmas Eve is the most magical night of the year? It is when Santa comes and leaves all of his presents under the tree. You can hear the sleigh bells ring in the night. Tracking Santa, this year with the Amazon Echo Dot. Waking up to find a little magic dust and so much more. I hate that I will be working Christmas Eve photographing a wedding, but when we get home we will have a wonderful night with the old and new Christmas Traditions. Everything from baking cookies for The Jolly Ol Man and making reindeer food, to opening their Christmas Eve Box. We have Christmas Traditions for everyone. And I can not forget about making something to keep us all warm and cozy. As we are in Texas, and we never know how the weather really will be on Christmas or Christmas Eve, I still make Hot Chocolate every year. Christmas Traditions | Baking Cookies Every year I tend to make peanut butter cookies for Santa. I know some people swear that Santa only loves Chocolate Chip Cookies, so we have to prepare our Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies. Something a little different for Santa to snack on. These are our favorite cookie recipes and so much fun to make with the girls. Christmas Tradition | Opening One Present We haven’t done this one since I was a child. And my mom says I made this up in my own head, and we never did anything like this. But my own memory still tells me about the time I was given the smallest present under the tree to open. I remember a necklace with Tinkerbell on it one year. A makeup kit another. My easy bake oven for another year. (I made Santa a cake that year.) I have not followed this tradition with my own children but I am thinking about starting the next tradition this year. Christmas Tradition | The Christmas Eve Box Have you seen the Christmas Eve Box on Pinterest yet? I have seen several of them all over Pinterest and I keep thinking about making one for the kids. Do I want to make one for the whole family? Or, do I want to make one for each of the kids, and James and I are out on this neat little traditions. We chose to go with the family box. Once it is done, I will write an article for here on how we put it together. Here are a few Ideas that I have found on Pinterest The Chirping Moms - PJ’s, Books, and a Game Every Child is a Blessing – PJ’s, Movie, Book, Bib, Cup, and Plushie wunder-mom.com – PJ’s, Gingerbread kit, movie, popcorn tubs, book, coloring books, Christmas bingo game, hot chocolate, and fun cups. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year! I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Very Happy New Year. We couldn’t do this website without our readers and I am so excited to bring you all new things next year.
