Mom's! You Need To Take Care Of Yourself

If you have noticed, I have not posted much over the last few weeks. I have been suffering from burnout and depression. I have put my family before myself, as I should, but at the expense of myself. After Skyler fell and fractured her knee, my mom’s health failing, and trying to home school Rhyan, I have not had any opportunity to care for myself or my relationship with James. How do I know that I have suffered from burnout and depression? I look at myself and I can see it. I look tired all the time, I have not had any desire to write lately, my creativity has taken a hit, and so much more. I know realize that I also have gained a lot of weight. Coloring My Hair Is A Favorite Self-care Activity I Love coloring my hair. Its been a long time since I took the time to really care for myself, and since my hair is getting longer, I thought it was time to color my hair since it was so healthy now and could take a little damage. Not going to lie, I used a box die.So If you haven’t seen my latest selfie on Instagram, can you guess what color I chose?A deep dark red, or accounding to the box, Red Velvet!I have always had reddish hair since turning 20. Only the last year or so have I forgone the red tones for my natural hair. Coloring my hair helped me feel good about myself again, but also helped me see something else that has happened. I need To Drop The weight Looking at my fair videos, and heck even looking in the mirror, I have noticed that I have gained weight. Earlier this year I said I was going to join weight watchers, but I didn’t keep up with either my exerciser routine nor my diet. I am Starting my 7-Day Free Trial with the Jillian Michaels personalized fitness app. I need to do something. Self Care So taking care of your body, both physical and physiological, is an important step in continuing to care for your family. I was starting to fail at that. So changing up my hair and starting to take care of my body, is one way to help fight the burnout and depression.Another thing, I am starting to use essential oils at home. I picked up a kit at walmart and I am loving the Harmony oil blend. We also use breath easy in the living room. As I learn more about oils, you may find a few more things about it on her.Taking time for myself is also something that I have started to do. I love my romance books, and have started to listen more to audible books. Even if its just a few minutes a day, I enjoy that. Thanks For Reading! Are You Following Us On Social Media? Where Did We Go? A Family Update

Its been a while I know. A few things have come up and truthfully I have not felt like writing simply because of my own exhaustion. A lot has happened. We got great news recently, and then something happens and puts a twist in our plans for the fall season. We won’t be able to visit Six Flags Over Texas much for the rest of the year it seems. It really depends oh Skyler, but more on that later. Also, my car is acting up now, but it has one more payment left on it, and I am sticking back for a new vehicle. Skyler and the Fractured Knee Oh Skyler, the child is a klutz. The week after we visited Six Flags Over Texas, I got a phone call from the School Nurse at Skyler’s school. While running in PE, Skyler managed to fall and bang herself up. Skyler insisted she was ok and just needed some ice to get through her day.The second phone call from the school nurse should have been my warning. But, again Skyler did not want to come home from school. See… Skyler has joined Band. She did not want to miss out on practice or anything along those lines. When I went to pick her up from school, I told the nurse on the phone that I would be one of the first in line outside of the schools GYM. I guess I should have made sure that I told her again the GYM. Skyler limped her way to the front office exit, and didn’t see me and I got phone call number four of the day.I wanted to cry when I saw my oldest limping out of the building. I KNEW something was REALLY wrong. I got her home after that and looked at her knee, as soon as I had her changed into a different pair of pants and could see her knee I called the nurse line since I could not get through to the pediatrician.I was advised to call 9-1-1 and have her transported. This is where momma bear starts to come out. The EMT’s looked at her knee and felt that it was ok enough for me to transport her myself. I took her down to the closes hospital and after xrays and and the doctor looking at it, we were told it was a hairline partial fracture.I went to the school the next morning livid. MY BABY was walking on a broken knee from 11:30 to almost 4 pm! After talking to the school assistant principle, and then the school nurse I was calmed down some, but what really surprised me was the phone calls I kept receiving from the school nurse. She REALLY cared. She felt just as bad as I did. This changed my anger and I really understood that Skyler really did not want to get into trouble over missing BAND. Skyler also WALKED UP STAIRS ON THIS BREAK!The photo above was at the hospital. Just a hairline partial fracture of her kneecap. They put her in a immobilizing half cast thing and sent us on our way and told us to see an ortho shortly after this.I called the one they recommend and he didn’t take our insurance, so I called Children’s. We had a appointment last Monday morning. They took her out of the other cast thing and x-rayed her knee. It seems Skylers break was worse than we thought, and was a more serious break on top of that. staff (2014). “Medical gallery of Blausen Medical 2014”. WikiJournal of Medicine 1 (2). DOI:10.15347/wjm/2014.010. ISSN 2002-4436The black line in the image above is where Skyler’s break is. So, the muscle above the break was pulling in this and pulled the fractured piece off. She is now in a knee brace from thigh to calf and I move it to help her gain her mobility back. Adventures are on Pause. So, we will not be visiting Six Flags until Skyler is fully mobile and we visit the Ortho again in a few weeks. She was originally in a wheel chair at school but she is using crutches this week. I just REALLY hope that she has someone to help her between classes.James and I thought that we would be visiting the Southwest RV show this past weekend, but put that off due to this, and a few other things.BUT I have to say thank you to the staff at Childrens including Mr. Ben that put the brace on Skyler and played around with us keeping her comfortable in the process. Nightmare Before Christmas Inspired Bedroom

I have known for years now that Skyler LOVES Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas. This Christmas, James got her a poster for her room of Jack, and it has me thinking that its time to re-decorate her room. Why not decorate it with a Nightmare Before Christmas Theme. Making My Own Printables I have Photoshop for a reason. I use to love making scrapbook digital elements, so I have a little knowledge of making things for these printables. I started off searching for silhouettes of Jack and also of Jack and Sally together. If I wasn’t able to find a silhouette, I found images that had a white or solid color background. Using the Magic Wand Tool, I selected the solid backgrounds and inverted my selection. I added a new layer and then using the flood fill I filled in the new selection. This gave me a blank canvas. Under this layer I always flood fill it with white, or what ever color I want the background to be, but for today’s, I used white. I had a few stock images of watercolors that I knew Skyler would love, so I added those to a new layer above my new silhouette. Right Clicking on this layer, I selected create Clipping Mask. This applies this layer only to the black silhouette. The only other thing I did was add a few words to a couple of them Nightmare Before Christmas Inspired Bedroom I created a wishlist on amazon for the things that I am either going to start buying or, since I am so lucky to have such a handy man in our lives, have James make. The dresser, nightstand, and artist table are things that he can make for us. The artist table would be even better because it would be more solid, and I can have a light box in the top for her. As you know I have the printable above that you can just click on and save if you wish. The Paint color is Sapphire Glow by Valspar and is available at Lowes. Six Flags Birthday

I still can not believe that we just finished celebrating Skyler’s 13th birthday. Skyler’s happy place is out at Six Flags Over Texas. In the past I have talked about our day trips, upgrading our passes, and 5 awesome tips for six flags. So I want to talk about Birthdays at Six Flags at the DFW park.

Working With My Planner

Right before Christmas, I picked up a Day Designer for BlueSky planner from Target to try and get a few things organized in my daily life and for the blog. I knew I wanted to start getting everything down so I would not forget something that needed to be done. I loved the weekly planner and it fits in my purse perfectly for on the go. As I started to fill out information in the planner I came into a snag. I want to be able to plan details every day, and the weekly planner really wasn’t working for me. I headed over to Day Designer’s website to start to see if she had a daily planner. Not only does she have daily planners but she also has FREE printables! Using My Planner To Organize My Life and Blog I have found the planner I plan to purchase from Day Designers Website, but in the meantime, I am using her free printable in a binder to get me started on a new routine. I am using her Monthly Callendar to jot down appointments, trips, and blog articles I plan to write over the current month. I used the Intentional Living Worksheet to note the things I want to accomplish including waking up at five am to get my mornings started with James. This month I chose to do the I Am Grateful Challenge on Instagram and I found that her Daily Gratitude Journal is perfect to note each day what the theme is and then expanding on that as the day comes. I then printed off the Cleaning Schedule but chose not to use it for January as I am also doing the PopSugar 30-Day Cleaning Challenge and have that printable right behind the Day Designer Cleaning Schedule. Next thing I did was print off the Weekly Planning Page and the Daily Planning Page. I did edit the PDF files to a 7-day file with the weekly planning page at the front. I printed these front to back, and I can tell my printer if the week is shorter by setting the print range numbers. This way I am not constantly running over to my printer to turn pages around or overprinting. On the Weekly Planning Page, I write down any appointments, trips, etc. I also write down if a bill is due on a certain day. (I used the Due section of the daily planner for something else.) On the Daily Planner, enter all of the appointments, blog post, Instagram theme, and cleaning challenge right away. As I said earlier, I am trying to wake up at five am in the morning to spend time with James. Right after he leaves, I get up and get dressed for the day. I get another cup of coffee and head into my office and open the planner. I check all of the information that I need for the day and then start planning the day. I note what top three things I HAVE TO GET DONE, check the Due section here for a post that is due. The Dollars Section is where I put any money coming in that day. Then comes my To-Do section of the planner. Right now I am using this for the challenges, other chores, and anything that needs to be done. I also check to see if I have clients or if there is an appointment. At the bottom of the worksheet, I put what time I woke up at. The last three days, I have made it to Five AM!!! But, Monday and Tuesday I overslept. The last thing is the Daily Gratitude. This is where I also check the Instagram theme of the day for this month at least. This will change for the rest of the year. In different areas of the binder, for now, I have printed off the 50 Best Practices for living a well-designed life and right before the planner pages start I have the 2018 Calendar. Behind the calendar, I have the Bucket List printable and the 86 List for the Planner Obsessed. So Am I Feeling Organized? I know that I am still fumbling with this whole planning thing. I have reprinted the first four pages of January twice because I have messed up somewhere. My goal is to purchase a new daily planner from Day Designer by the end of January, but just in case I did print up daily pages until April. I am also putting important appointments and client information in the planner from Target and keeping it in my purse. That way if I am out and about, I am able to set appointments or schedule clients as needed. There are a few more printable that I do want to check out and see if I want to print and including in my temporary planner or wait to see what all comes with the bound one from Day Designer. I may also get Skyler one of the new planners when they come out with the academic year one later on since she will start middle school next year and will have individual classes so she can keep up and not forget things like I always did. Best to get her started now. I know I am new to planning on paper. After reaching adulthood and getting my first smartphone, I have always had a digital calendar and I ALWAYS forgot appointments or the notice never came. With a paper planner I ALWAY know what I have going on, I can write out post ideas, and so much more this way. Things I Want To Help with My Planning The first few things are PRETTY STICKERS! Why? I want to make my planner unique like myself and my family. I want to customize the planner for ME. I also want to have different color pens, as you can see in the few pictures I have shared I am using a highlighter for Instagram post, and orange for my blog post. I HATE both of these but otherwise its just black ink. I found the metallic ink and then the huge box of colors that would be great not only for the planner but for adult coloring books also. Are you a planner? What All do you include in yours? I would love to know how you go about planning your day.  Find Your Day Designer Planner here:

Starting the Teen Years | Happy Birthday Skyler

I can not believe it has been almost 13 years since she was born. In early January, Skyler will be turning 13 years old, and I will officially be a mom of a teenager. Skyler is slowly starting to show who she will be as a teen, and I have to say that I could not be more proud of my daughter. As we are Starting the Teen Years with Skyler, I wanted to share a few things. Skyler is my exact duplicate in appearance but when it comes to personality, we couldn’t be more different. If I look back to who I was when I was her age though, I can see a lot of my teenage self in her. This sometimes scares me, as I know every year I become more and more like my own mother. I want to raise Skyler differently than I was raised, but at the same time, I did not have a bad childhood. Skyler will be lucky since this was the same year things for me changed. I had to grow up this year. I don’t want Skyler to grow up to fast like I did. I want her to enjoy being a teen and not take on the responsibilities that I did. Parenting a Teenage Daughter This scares me because it wasn’t that long ago that I was a teenage daughter. I remember a lot of the dumb stuff I pulled so this is my promises to Skyler. Things that I plan to TRY and do differently than my own mother did. Not Engaging in Shouting Matches One thing that I was bad about was shouting matches with my mom. I was bad about starting fights and she would engage me. She would shout and scream and yell. It got bad a few times to the point that it was almost knock out fights. I promise to Skyler that I will stay calm and express my self in a lower voice. If I can not accomplish this, I will let her know that we will continue the conversation when I am calmer. No Tears This is one thing that my mom was good about. I never once saw her cry until I was an adult or I had done something REALLY bad (ran away at 15). I will not let Skyler defeat me, and reduce me to tears over silly petty stuff. I LOVE YOU SKYLER This is one thing I say to her multiple times a day. I did not hear it enough growing up from my mom. Even if we are in a fight, nothing she says or does will stop me from loving her. I don’t care what she says to me, or does, I will never stop loving her until I take my last breath. Touch This one will be hard because she has taken after my mom with this. I will hug her, pat her on her shoulder, and kiss her on her cheek. I don’t care about the groans or her pulling away. I will show her that I love her. Listening I will always keep an open mind, and truly listen to her when she comes to me. I do not want her afraid of talking to me. I know it’s going to be hard, raising my first teenage, but it’s going to be fun. You know why? Skyler really is a good kid. She has such a great personality, and her hobbies and likes are so much fun that I can’t wait to see what she does over the coming years. As we start this new lifes journey, and we set off to explore the world around us, it really will be an Odyssey With Love.
